I am Randy Brodehl, a Republican conservative that knows the values of Montana, and understands the limitations that government has as established by the Constitution of Montana and the Constitution of the United States of America.  I support those values and limitations, and as your state representative for House District 7, I will do so at all times.  My decisions and votes are decided based on:

  • Is this legislation Constitutional?
  • Is this reducing in any way, the responsibility of individuals to make good decisions?
  • Will this legislation interfere with an individual’s freedom to make good decisions?
  • Is this legislation fiscally responsible?
  • Can Montanans afford this legislation?

As a republican candidate, my goals, within the constitutional parameters, are to provide:

  1. Smaller State Government
    1. Consolidate agencies and boards
    2. Streamline regulatory processes
  2. Tax Relief
    1. Eliminate business and equipment tax
    2. Reduce business regulations and fees
  3. Personal and Property Rights Protection
    1. Decrease state involvement in family, schools, and property use
    2. Move property regulations to local control

I believe that the citizens of Montana should have a frugal and shrewd government which allows its citizens to manage their own lives and businesses with little or no interference; while protecting its citizens from undue hardships.  These rights were the intent of our founding fathers and each of us must do all we can to protect these rights. If you believe that Montana still belongs to the people, then stand with me as I work in the legislature!

Randy, I am proud to say that I have voted for you in my first ever election!

  2. Richard Burningham says:

Thanks for calling on us. You look like a good man for the job. You talk about school and decrease state controle. How do you feel about school prayer? Also about displaly of 10 comandments and keeping them. ? Keep up the good work of letting our comunity know who you are.

  3. Brodehl says:

    Dear Mr. Burningham,
I am in favor of prayer in schools and certainly believe school rules and regulations should be moved to the local districts as much as possible. While I don’t believe that a school should force a child to pray, I am adamant that children should always be allowed to pray, wherever they are; and that the government has no business dictating, limiting, or establishing a child’s personal beliefs in God. I am a Christian commited to serving God first, my family second, and my community next. I will stand firm in my faith and will vote in support of an individual’s right to exercise their faith, whether in school or elsewhere.

As far as the ten commandments go…I was really disappointed when the ACLU (and others) went after public displays of the ten commandments. However, as God showed, he is bigger than all of this, there are now more public displays on private land, than would have ever been considered without the actions by the ACLU, and the support of the court system! I’m proud of everyone that has taken the initiative to display the ten commandments in their yard or at their business!

Thanks for taking the time to contact me. Please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime! rlb

  7. Gregg Oberlin says:

Americans need to be reminded that capitalism made this country prosperous and all government can do is take. Socialism is the wrong answer, as we can see by the European collapse. Our fate is theirs if we continue in that direction. Free enterprise is the system that sets our Country apart from all others and to abandon it is national suicide. Anyone with half a brain should see that the spending and debt (13 trillion and rising fast) are the biggest threats to our national security besides Islamic terriorists. When more principled people like you run for office it gives me hope for our future. We cannot allow these Democrats and their crazy ideas ruin our great country. Thank you for running and encouraging true Americans.

  8. Brodehl says:

    Gregg,
Thanks for the encouragement! I’m looking forward to the general election and believe that there will be strong swing in the voters to a conservative/constitutional commitment. There have been so many people that have spoken to me about the need to recommit to following the constitution and need for State sovereignity. Our country has met success in the past because we chose not to have a socialist government and instead let our entreprenuers and risk takers run with their passions. I will do all I can to assure that we move back in that direction before our country takes the European path.

    Dear Randy,
Just went to Fr. Corapi’s book signing the other weekend, in Omaha. Was really surprised to see Kalispell, MT as his home! What a coincidence!
Keep up the good work in the election. We need more people like you supporting our values!
    God Bless You and Yours,
    Denise J.

  12. Brodehl says:

    Denise,
Thanks for the note! Kalispell is a great place, and people here are Montanans to the core!

I believe that it is, “For such a time as this”, that we are here. This is truly the year for bringing back principles and values to government. Thanks again! Randy B

    Question:
I have a commercial building leased to the state of Montana. The Governor had a staff member call me who made demands for a reduction in rent. He told me that if I did not comply the state would not renew the lease. I was not able to comply because the reduction would put my income below the payments. What do you think about this?

  14. Brodehl says:

    Joe,
Thanks for your question. First, a renter, especially a government renter, is not in a postition to demand a reduction in rent. A request to renegotiate the lease would be appropriate, putting both of you in equal position. A call to the governor to remind him of the difference an attitude makes would be very appropriate. His contact information is:
    Governor Brian D. Schweitzer
    Office of the Governor
    Montana State Capitol Bldg.
    P.O. Box 200801
    Helena MT 59620-0801
    (406) 444-3111, FAX (406) 444-5529

That said, the State of Montana is facing a deficit of around $4,000,000 over next couple years, due directly to tax revenues being decreased with the lack of jobs and business growth under the current administration. So all leases, jobs, and all other expenditures will have to be reviewed, cut, or eliminated as soon as possible. Montana law does not allow the state to operate in a deficit budget. This is more than likely, a factor in the current governor’s attempt to reduce the lease. Again, this does not excuse wrong attitudes in his staff.

I know that the commercial real estate lease/rent business is extremely competitive right now and there does not appear to be a rapid fix coming on the horizon. As a business owner, I have also seen a reduction in projects and revenue streams. We are making tough choices and are doing all that we can to hold the line, reduce costs, and adjust our prices to insure profitability. I would encourage you to work where you can with the governor, but also do all you can to hold him and his staff accountable for how they approach these tough issues.

Sorry I can’t offer a promise for a positive revenue stream. I can promise that I am facing the same tough decisions each day, and that, as your representative, I will approach these kinds of issues with the sensitivity that they deserve. rlb

  18. Brodehl says:

Seth, the short answer to your question is no, this bill was not related to the reason I retired. The long answer is that this bill has been needed for 112 years. I started working on this bill in 2003, while I was still the fire chief in Kalispell. Many of the firefighters knew about it then as we had several discussions about an unfunded mandate by the state that prevented the use of volunteers. This bill is about allowing local decisions to be made by local government, because it is their budget, not the state’s. I did receive your other email. I will not post either due to the content. While there is a move to discredit me that is being pushed by the opposition to this bill, I would recommend that you do your own research with the city, not depend on people who are feeding you information that is unfounded. If you would like to unseat me, this is America and we have a system designed to allow you to run for office.
