Appropriations Committee

I will be serving on the Appropriations Committee again this session, and, as I was two years ago, I will be serving on the Judicial Joint Sub-Committee. Both committees are focused on budget approval, budget review, and fiscal responsibility. I am thrilled to have this appointment and look forward to working with Chairman Ankney, and Vice-Chairman Gibson. Steve Gibson is also chairing my sub-committee so we’ll be spending quite a bit of time working together again this session!

Election Day!

Well, the day we’ve been looking for is here! For some, its the day that the media advertisements are done. For others, the day that we pick a certain candidate. For me, it is the day that we exercise our right and obligation to vote. America functions because we take our responsibilities with the weight that the Signers of the Constitution gave it. While it is unfortunate that often more than half of our voters disregard this obligation, it is also to the founding fathers credit that they recognized that Americans are free to choose, even if it means choosing to not vote. For those of you that may be wondering how I voted in the federal and state races, please know that I voted for and endorsed:

The race is on!

As you might imagine, the campaign season is a fast paced time for all of the candidates! I am spending 2-4 hours per day knocking on doors and visiting with folks in my district. To all of you that I’ve seen or will be seeing, thanks for visiting and for checking out my web page!

I’m also attending a lot of meetings with local and state groups as we prepare for the upcoming session that starts in January. There is a lot of things that we’ll be looking at this coming session, from budget changes to tort reform, from health care to reduction of government size. America, Land that I Love. Please join me as we remember what America was founded on. Take time to reflect on the freedoms we have enjoyed, and those that fought and died to protect those freedoms. May we always know that our right to vote as individuals is crucial to keeping America free. May we never take for granted our freedom, our right to take risks, and our right to worship.

God, forgive us for failing to protect our freedoms and rights. Help us to trust in you, and please continue to watch over us.

Health Care

America’s Supreme Court has made a huge step towards stripping the freedoms from Montanans and all Americans. Their recent decision to uphold the 2010 Personal Health Care Act, nicknamed Obamacare, is at best a disappointment to me. However, this now shifts the responsibility to stop if possible, or to manage conservatively if we cannot stop it, to the legislatures of American and the American States. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will be part of the state’s legislators who will do all we can to strip this act of as much undue impacts as we can.
